<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming device that suitably protect a belt or other members by a common constitution in both of a mode in which a belt unit is mounted in an image forming device and a mode in which the belt unit is not mounted in the image forming device, and simply and quickly removes belt protection means before image forming operation. <P>SOLUTION: A sheet member is arranged along a belt surface to protect the belt surface in the belt unit before usage. One end of the sheet member along a moving route on the belt surface is detachably engaged with the belt unit in a state where the movement along the moving route on the belt surface is restricted at a position near an opening of a body frame and facing the opening.
