A method for producing reassortant influenza virus particles for preparation of a vaccine, comprising: i) introducing a first set of expression vectors into cells containing a nucleoprotein and an RNA dependent RNA polymerase, wherein said vectors comprise genomic influenza vRNA segments or antigenomic cRNA segments of said genomic influenza vRNA segments; ii) culturing said cells in the absence of helper virus such that ribonucleoprotein complexes containing the genomic influenza vRNA segments are formed and reassortant influenza viral particles comprising the genomic influenza vRNA segments is assembled in said cells; and iii) recovering said reassortant influenza viral particles from said cells.
