Nucleic acids and vectors encoding the antibodies or portions thereof, recombinant cells that contain the nucleic acids, and compositions comprising the antibodies or antigen-binding fragments are also disclosed. The invention also provides therapeutic and diagnostic methods utilizing the antibodies and antigen-binding.

An anti-GCC antibody molecule comprising one or more light chain variable region and/or heavy chain variable regions selected from the group consisting of: a) MS7 heavy chain variable region Amino Acid Sequence SEQ ID NO:1; and/or MS7 light chain variable region Amino Acid Sequence SEQ ID NO:2; and b) MS20 heavy chain variable region Amino Acid Sequence SEQ ID NO:3; and/or MS20 light chain variable region Amino Acid Sequence SEQ ID NO:4;wherein the anti-GCC antibody molecule is i) an antibody that binds to human guanylyl cyclase C that is selected from the group consisting of: a monoclonal antibody and a chimeric antibody; or ii) an antigen-binding fragment of an antibody that binds to human guanylyl cyclase C that is selected from the group consisting of: a Fab fragment, Fab′ fragment, F(ab′)2 fragment, an scFv fragment, a double chain antigen-binding fragment, an Fd fragment, a dAb fragment; a single chain antibody, a functional heavy chain antibody and a diabody.
