PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an intermediate transfer recording medium capable of satisfying both advantages of recording by a thermal transfer method and of recording by ink jet printing, and an image formation method using the intermediate transfer recording medium.SOLUTION: An intermediate transfer recording medium 1 at least includes: a base material 2; and a transfer part 10 releasably formed on one side of the base material 2. The transfer part 10 includes, from the base material 2 side, at least a release layer 3, and a reception layer 4 laminated in this order. The release layer 3 contains at least inorganic fine particles.
