PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To warm up an EGR valve early and thus enable early start of introduction of EGR gas while no condensation water is present around the EGR valve in an internal combustion engine.SOLUTION: An internal combustion engine includes an EGR passage 32 and an EGR valve 36 for introducing EGR gas to an intake passage 12 upstream of a compressor 22a for supercharging intake air. The internal combustion engine further includes an intake bypass passage 50 for interconnecting the intake passage 12 downstream of the compressor 22a and the EGR passage 32 immediately below the EGR valve 36 in the flowing direction of the EGR gas. The internal combustion engine further includes a bypass valve 52 for selecting a form of a flow passage of intake air between a first flow passage form in which intake air that has passed through the compressor 22a passes through the intake passage 12 and then flows into the cylinder without change and a second flow passage form in which part of the intake air that has passed through the compressor 22a passes through the intake bypass passage 50 and the EGR passage 32 and then recirculates to the upstream side of the compressor 22a while the EGR valve 36 is closed. |
