PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and apparatus for decoding a video.SOLUTION: A method for decoding a video includes the following steps of: receiving a bitstream of an encoded video; obtaining information about the maximum coding unit and division information of coding unit included in the maximum coding unit, from the bitstream; determining many maximum coding units divided from a video by information about a size of the maximum coding unit, and decoding the maximum coding unit in a raster scanning order; determining one or more coding units hierarchically divided from the maximum coding unit by the division information; and decoding the coding unit of the maximum coding unit by a zigzag scanning order.
