PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide TiO(B) which is excellent in initial discharge capacity and initial discharge efficiency when used as an electrode material for lithium ion batteries, its production method and a lithium ion battery using it.SOLUTION: Titanium dioxide has a specific surface area of 6-100 m/g, an average aspect ratio of 0.37≤S/L≤1, in terms of the ratio (S/O) of the minor diameter S to the major diameter L of primary particles, in an SEM photographic image and a peak intensity ratio (I/I) of the peak intensity of the (002) plane to the peak intensity of the (401) plane of 0.7 or higher in the X-ray diffraction pattern.
