PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus in which surface information of a fixing member can be accurately detected.SOLUTION: A color printer is the image forming apparatus including a fixing belt for fixing an image transferred to a recording sheet and a surface information detector for detecting surface information on the fixing belt. The surface information detector includes: an irradiation system which has a plurality of LEDs and emits light to the fixing belt; a light receiving system which receives the light; and a processor which obtains the surface information on the basis of a first light reception result in the light receiving system during first irradiation of irradiating at least a reference reflector with light from the irradiation system and a second light reception result in the light receiving system during second irradiation of irradiating at least the fixing belt with the light from the irradiation system.
