The present invention relates to a composition for preventing or treating obesity comprising Massa medicata fermentata as an active ingredient. The Massa medicata fermentata according to the present invention has excellent effects of not causing hepatotoxicity in an obesity animal model induced by a high-fat diet, decreasing the weight and the adipose tissue weight and reducing a concentration of total blood cholesterol and triglyceride, and thus can be helpfully used for preventing or treating obesity.
