The present invention relates to a nuclear reactor which, more particularly, has a passive safety device and uses liquid metal as a coolant. The nuclear reactor having a passive safety device includes a reactor core and the safety device. The safety device includes: a fixated rod of which one end portion is fixated to an upper portion of the reactor core, a free end portion is extended toward the reactor core, at least a portion is immersed in the coolant for cooling the reactor core, and the length increases as the temperature increases; and an absorption rod which is joined with the free end portion of the fixed rod, and includes a neutron absorption body embedded therein. The passive safety device can be installed on a common nuclear reactor in an easy manner without significant change of a design and can have a negative reactivity feedback effect. Moreover, the passive safety device can automatically have the negative reactivity feedback effect without extraordinary operation if the temperature of the coolant increases. |
