CROP FLOW ASSISTING DEVICE FOR HARVESTING HEADER

A crop flow assistance device for a harvesting header comprises a curved member mounted in relation to the rear wall of the header, with a top edge positioned within the draper table area of the header and a concave-curved shield surface. The shield will deflect or roll crop material during operation back into the draper area, so that crop material is not thrown up over the back of the header and is directed to the discharge. This will be particularly advantageous in the harvesting of peas and other dense or tangling crop material which have a tendency to bind or ball in harvest with traditional headers.

1. A harvesting header with a crop flow assistance surface, for attachment to a harvesting power unit, said header comprising:
a. at least one conveyor deck, the conveyor deck having a forward edge and a rearward edge and two ends; b. cutting means along the forward edge of the conveyor deck to cut crop material onto the conveyor deck; c. a rear wall having a top edge and a bottom edge, the bottom edge thereof being attached to the rearward edge of the conveyor deck in a header joint and extending upwards therefrom, the area defined by the at least one conveyor deck and the rear wall comprising a crop material transport area; d. a crop reel mounted in relation to the conveyor deck and cutting means to draw crop material into the cutting means and onto the conveyor deck, when rotated in operation; e. at least one transverse conveyor to carry cut crop material across the conveyor deck to a header discharge, said transverse conveyor attached to the header with a rearward edge in proximity to the header joint, a top surface in operating proximity to the rear wall and extending into the crop material transport area; f. at least one crop flow assistance device comprising:
i. a top body member having a forward edge and a rearward edge, the rearward edge thereof attached to the rear wall in proximity to the top edge thereof, and the forward edge thereof extending into the crop material transport area, towards but not engaging the crop reel;ii. a generally concave crop guidance plate having a top edge and a bottom edge, the top edge of the crop guidance plate being attached along the forward edge of the top body member, and the bottom edge of the top guidance plate being attached to the rear wall of the header in proximity to the top edge of the at least one transverse conveyor;wherein the at least one crop flow assistance device provides a generally concave crop flow assistance surface to roll crop material from the rear wall of the header back into the crop material transport area while it is carried across the conveyor deck.
