[Problem] To provide a negative electrode active material for a non-aqueous electrolyte cell having high initial charge/discharge efficiency and exceptional cycle characteristics. [Solution] A negative electrode active material for a non-aqueous electrolyte secondary cell according to an embodiment has silicon or silicon oxide having silicon therein, a carbonaceous material enclosing the silicon or silicon oxide having silicon therein, and a phase containing a silicate compound and an electroconductive aid present between the carbonaceous material and the silicon or silicon oxide having silicon therein.
