Provided is a coated tool with which the tool life can be extended beyond that of a conventional tool. The coated tool comprises a substrate and a coated layer formed on the surface of the substrate. The coated layer comprises a first layered structure and a second layered structure. The first layered structure and the second layered structure have been alternately layered two or more consecutive times. The first layered structure comprises at least two types of layers of different compositions, and the two types of layers are alternately layered two or more times. The mean thickness of layers included in the first layered structure is at least 60 nm and no greater than 500 nm. The second layered structure comprises at least two types of layers of different compositions, and the two types of layers are alternately layered two or more times. The mean thickness of the layers included in the second layered structure is at least 2 nm and less than 60 nm. The layers included in the first layered structure and in the second layered structure comprise a compound including at least one metal element selected from the group consisting of Ti, Zr, Hf, V, Nb, Ta, Cr, Mo, W, Al, Si, Sr, Y, Sn, and Bi and at least one non-metal element selected from the group consisting of carbon, nitrogen, oxygen and boron. The mean thickness of the first layered structure and/or second layered structure decreases in a continuous or stepwise manner going from the substrate side toward the surface side of the coated layer. |
