Each of a plurality of ordered tiles is sequentially fit into a first open location within a scrollable two-dimensional matrix. The open locations into which any particular tile may be fit are limited by a non-zero, positive offset value that specifies how far from an immediately previous tile that tile may be backfilled into the matrix.

1. A method of fitting a plurality of ordered tiles in a horizontally scrollable two-dimensional matrix having a plurality of columns and a plurality of rows, the plurality of tiles having two or more different sizes, the method comprising:
placing a lowest remaining tile from the plurality of ordered tiles; and placing a next remaining tile from the plurality of ordered tiles in a first open location in an uppermost row of a leftmost column beginning F columns to the left of a column in which the lowest remaining tile was placed, where F is a non-zero, positive integer offset value.
