PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical fiber and a manufacturing method of the optical fiber that enable stabilization of desired DMD (Differential Mode Delay) characteristics in a lengthwise direction by restraining variations in refractive index distribution during a manufacturing process and designing an optimum refractive index distribution.SOLUTION: An optical fiber, which is a multimode fiber, comprises: a core with a maximum refractive index higher than a refractive index of pure SiO; a layer 13 containing no Ge continuously in a lengthwise direction of the optical fiber in a center of the core; and a layer 11 having a refractive index distribution of an α-th power distribution and doped with Ge on an outer periphery of the layer 13.
