A power converter comprising a converter for converting AC power into DC power, a converter controller for controlling the output voltage of the converter, an inverter for converting the DC power into AC power of variable frequency, an inverter controller for controlling the output frequency of the inverter, and a current detector for detecting the AC current on the input side of the converter, wherein the inverter controller regulates the slip frequency of an induction motor depending on a variation in AC current on the input side of the converter detected by the current detector. Consequently, beat current in the output current of the inverter can be suppressed even during load variation and power supply voltage variation.
