PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lens barrel in which high telephoto performance can be obtained without entailing an increase of a thickness dimension in a collapsing state. SOLUTION: The lens barrel 10 includes a plurality of lens holding frames in order to establish a photographing state P by moving a plurality of lens groups from a collapsing state in which the lens groups are collapsed and housed in a stationary tube 21a of a stationary frame 21 holding an imaging device 16 to an object side, a movable lens barrel, and a lens holding frame driving means, and has a retreat lens holding frame 31 having a lens holding section 90 and an arm section 91. The retreat lens holding frame 31 locates the lens groups into photographing positions without allowing the arm section 91 to be bent at a hinge part 93 in the photographing state P and causes the arm section to be bent and plaited in the hinge portions 93 in the collapsing state D, thereby reducing the thickness dimension and retreating the lens groups to the retreat positions.
