<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To miniaturize an internal combustion engine in an axial direction of a crankshaft, and to shorten the length of an oil passage connecting a hydraulic valve halting mechanism to a hydraulic control device. <P>SOLUTION: In this multi-cylinder internal combustion engine, the hydraulic valve halting mechanism operated by hydraulic pressure controlled by the hydraulic control device and closing/halting an engine valve of a part of cylinders to set a cylinder halting state, is arranged in a valve gear for driving for opening/closing the engine valve provided openable and closable to the cylinder head of an engine body having plural cylinders.
