Phthalocyanines of a green colour are obtained by heating with metals or metal compounds phthalonitriles substituted by a phenyl group or a substituted phenyl group. The phthalonitriles may also be produced during the course of the reaction from o-dihalogen diphenyl or diphenyl-o-carboxylic acid anhydrides or imides. The products can be pasted by solution in quinoline and precipitation with hydrochloric acid, or by grinding with dispersing agents. If the phenyl group contains a substituent preventing sulphonation, the pasting can be effected with sulphuric acid. In an example, 3 : 4-dicyandiphenyl is heated with cuprous chloride and pyridine at 200--210 DEG C. The starting material can be made from 3-nitro-4-aminodiphenyl by converting the amino group into the cyano group by Sandmeyer's reaction, reducing the nitro group to amino and then replacing it by a cyano group. |
