A position tracking system and a method thereof are provided to attach an RFID(Radio Frequency Identification) tag having position information to the floor of a room, sense the RFID through a sensor combined with a mobile carried by a person who walks, and transmit the current position of the person to a server to track the position of the person in real time. A position tracking system includes a member attached to the floor of a room, a sensor(20) and a server(30). The sensor senses the member to generate a sense signal and transmits the sense signal to the server. The server stores information on the position of the member and tracks the movement of the sensor. The sensor includes a tag reader for reading an RFID tag(10) and a wireless transmitter for transmitting the read information to the server wirelessly or includes a sensor for identifying and reading the floor and a wireless transmitter for transmitting the read information to the server wirelessly.
