The method involves monitoring a control signal for a power actuator (18) of an internal combustion engine (10). An error reaction is initiated when the control signal conforms to a predetermined error criteria. An initializing of a functional unit (20a) is implemented, which forms influencing variables that influences the control signal, to prevent the initiation of the error reaction. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a computer program for the execution of the method (2) a controller for the execution of the method.
