<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming system and image forming apparatus in which a mode or the like can be appropriately controlled when communication between devices is cut off. <P>SOLUTION: When communication between a printer and a UI device is cut off, processing in re-establishing the communication is set via the UI device (S101) and stored in a memory (S102). When a mode at a current point of time is detected, a detection result is stored in the memory (S111) and communication cut-off is detected (S112), mode information stored in the memory is read and the mode is stored in the memory as a mode at the time of cut-off.
