PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and a method for cooling an X-ray detector, which can be easily realized and which is especially suitable for the application to computed tomography. SOLUTION: A cooling device for a radiation detector (1) is equipped with a detector surface (31) and two or more collimator plates (2) disposed in front of the detector surface (31) in the direction of X rays (3). The collimator plates (2) are arranged leaving spaces in between so that a cooling air current (4) can be at least partially supplied to them in order to cool the radiation detector (1), and/or the cooling device includes an air introducing device (7) designed to at least partially supply the cooling air current (4) to the spaces between collimator plates (2) in order to cool the radiation detector (1).
