PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coin image discrimination device with an imaging apparatus capable of imaging the characteristic pattern (such as a fine pattern in a specific area) of a coin at a high resolution. SOLUTION: The coin image discrimination device comprises: an imaging timing detection means for detecting the imaging timing of a coin image in an imaging means; an imaging timing decision means for deciding the imaging timing of the coin on the basis of output from the imaging timing detection means; and a control part for imaging the image of a coin surface at the imaging timing decided in the imaging timing decision means. Also, the imaging means has a plurality of switchable imaging magnifications and changeover control is performed by a changeover control means inside or outside the device.
