The device has a unit (8) with a multi-core processor (1). The multi-core processor comprises multiple cores (2,3), where a real time program (EZP) proceeds in one core (2) and a non-real time program (NEZP) proceeds in another core (3). The real time program allows the control and/or regulation of machine drives (A1,A2). The presetting of the beginning of the process of the real time program takes place by the cycle (T) preset to the former core.
