<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cubical boron nitride sintered compact having strength, hardness, heat resistance and heat releasing property sufficient to a cutting tool. <P>SOLUTION: In the method of manufacturing the cubical boron nitride sintered compact by directly converting low pressure base boron nitride under a high temperature and high pressure and simultaneously sintering, the low pressure phase boron nitride as a starting material is prepared by reducing a compound containing boron and oxygen with a compound containing nitrogen and carbon. In the resultant cubical boron nitride sintered compact, the ratio I<SB>220</SB>/I<SB>111</SB>of X-ray diffraction intensity I<SB>220</SB>in (220) plane to X-ray diffraction intensity I<SB>111</SB>in (111) plane is ≥0.1. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
