PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an absolute type encoder capable of eliminating surely an error in position measurement, with a minimum possible expense. SOLUTION: Code elements C1-C5 of a serial code are scanned respectively by a large number of scanning elements D1-D6, and the scanning elements D1-D6 for securing sure scanning are selected by different selection methods A1, A2.
