PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cellulose/mixed fatty acid ester (e.g., cellulose acetate 3 to 6C acylate) having a low impurity content in spite of having a high degree of polymerization and to provide a method for producing the same. SOLUTION: The method for producing the cellulose/mixed fatty acid ester comprises the step of first activation step including a first activation processing step of activating cellulose by treatment with an acylation solvent (e.g., 1 to 6C alkanoic acid), the second activation step including a second activation processing step of activating the cellulose by treatment with an acylation solvent and an acylation acid catalyst (e.g., sulfuric acid), and the step of acylating the cellulose with an acylating agent having a 3C or higher acyl group (e.g., 3 to 6C alkanoic acid anhydride) in the presence of an acylation acid catalyst.
