a solid fuel is disclosed comprising predominantly, or consisting essentially of, at least one carbohydrate component, and wherein at least said carbohydrate component is in the form of a powder whose average particle diameter and median particle diameter are greater than or equal to 150 mum. The solid fuel can be used as such or as a blend with usual fuel to replace any fuel currently in use, such as gasoline and pulverized coal.
