A device for testing the operation of an ultrasonic transducer 6 comprises a container 1 filled with liquid 2. A target 8, which may be a sensor or a reflector, hangs in the liquid 2 and may be moved during metering using positioning device 7. Undesirable reflections of ultrasonic waves are eliminated using ultrasound absorbers 3,9,10 including a first absorber 3 fixed on the wall of the container opposite the transducer, a second moveable absorber 9 whose position is determined prior to metering and/or a third absorber 10 fixed to the hanging support 71 for the target 8 and moves simultaneously with the target during metering. The second 9 and third 10 absorbers are in the space in the container between the target and the wall opposite the location of the ultrasonic transducer 6 so as to minimise unwanted reflections from behind the target 8. The transducer may be either inside the container or outside the container in which case the container is provided with an acoustic window 101. |
