PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a reinforcing fiber, excellent in adhesive force to rubbers and resins, hardly having partial adhesive unevenness and excellent in continuous treating property. SOLUTION: The method for producing the reinforcing fiber comprises treating a fiber positioned on the outside of a plasma formation space with discharging flow composed of a plasma-producing gas passing through the plasma formation space between two electrodes and a reactive gas, in a method for carrying out plasma treatment of the fiber. It is preferable that the reactive gas does not pass through the plasma formation space. Further, it is preferable that a film composed of a polymer is formed on the fiber surface after plasma treatment and the polymer has at least one kind of group selected from a group consisting of an amide group, a hydroxy group and a carboxyl group and an amide bond or an ester bond on the side chain.
