PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a roller effective for conveying a hot material, which is excellent in build-up resistance even when used in an elevated-temperature atmosphere, e.g. in a heat-treatment furnace. SOLUTION: The roller has a metal-carbide composite film containing 20-70% of by volume carbide on the surface of a base material.
