PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rear type projection TV excellent in the characteristic of the angle of visibility in every direction and also capable of displaying a high-luminance picture, and to provide a microlens base plate and a transmission type screen suitably applied to the rear type projection TV. SOLUTION: The microlens base plate has many convex microlenses, and has a flat part near the top of the microlens. The width of the microlens in the plane view of the microlens base plate is 10 to 500μm. The width of the flat part in the plane view of the microlens base plate is 0.1 to 250μm. When the width of the microlens in the plane view of the microlens base plate is defined as W<SB>0</SB>[μm] and the width of the flat part in the plane view of the microlens base plate is defined as W<SB>1</SB>[μm], the microlens base plate satisfies relation; 0.05≤W<SB>1</SB>/W<SB>0</SB>≤0.3.
