A method for providing a multimedia data service and an apparatus therefor are provided to synchronize a received second audio file with a played back video file by using synchronization information included in a synchronization file, and play back the synchronized file so that a user can change a language of the audio file within a short time while watching multimedia data and watch the video file. A multimedia data service method comprises the following steps of: requesting a second audio file, encoded in a language requested by a user, from a multimedia data providing server during playback of a video file and a first audio file(S160); receiving the second audio file and a synchronization file, including predetermined synchronization information, from the multimedia data providing server according to a request for the second audio file(S170); and synchronizing the received second audio file with the played back video file by using the synchronization information included in the synchronization file, and playing back the synchronized file(S190).
