A color display device is provided to display a color image with a wide color reconstruction range by converting blue light to red light and green light using a fluorescent material, and obtaining a color image using the converted red and green light, and blue light used as excitation light. A blue light source(10) emits blue light. A color conversion layer includes a first wavelength conversion region in which the blue light is converted into light with a red wavelength region, a second wavelength conversion region in which the blue light is converted into light with a green wavelength region, and a blue region transmitting blue light. The first and second wavelength conversion regions, and the blue region are disposed on a plane. A switch configuration is formed corresponding to each of the first and second wavelength conversion regions, and the blue region, and controls transmission/non-transmission of light from the blue light source.
