PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coating composition to be applied to paper and a coated paper coated with the coating composition. SOLUTION: The composition for paper-coating use comprises (A) a synthetic resin latex, (B) a mixture of a styrene-acrylic emulsion polymerization product and an emulsified dispersion obtained by using a synthetic hydrocarbon resin added with anα,β-unsaturated polybasic acid, a paraffin wax, a natural and/or synthetic wax, a straight-chain nonionic surfactant and an oily nonionic surfactant and using an inorganic alkali and/or organic alkali and (C) calcium carbonate. The coated paper is produced by applying the coating composition to at least one surface of a paper material.
