PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an item selecting apparatus capable of easily selecting a desired item, utilizing ranking information to which items limited in simultaneous selection are subjected. SOLUTION: A reservation ranking list indicates a popularity ranking of the time zone defined programs. A CPU acquires, such a reservation ranking list from a server 300. A plurality of programs, based on the acquired reservation ranking list, are outputted by the CPU. A selecting operation for selecting any one of the plurality of outputted programs is accepted by a non-illustrated "upward arrow" button or "downward arrow" button of a remote controller. The CPU detects overlap programs, with which a time zone overlapping the time zone defined for the program selected by the selecting operation is defined, from among the plurality of programs outputted by the CPU. A flickering indication outputs a message in association with the detected program.
