PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an arm rest which is equipped with sufficient rigidity against a load of a human body and which is capable of absorbing impact by easily deforming itself on receiving a significant side load, as well as attaining weight and cost reductions. SOLUTION: The arm rest is provided with core member 1 which includes at least an upper member 13 and a lower member 14 of which each end portion is overlappingly interconnected vertically by a thin-wall superposing portion 15 in such a direction as to cross the vertical direction. A lower surface 13' of the upper member 13 and an upper surface 14' of the lower member 14, both of which are continued to the superposing portion 15, are generally on the same plane or cross each other. Then, when an excessive stress is applied to the core member 1 in such a direction as to cross the vertical direction of the core member 1, the superposing position 15 is deformed by a shearing force, and the upper member 13 or the lower member 14 shifts for itself, thus absorbing the stress.
