The system has a development warehouse (16) for central administration of tool data of different development tools (2-6). The tool data is subdivided into common tool data and specific tool remaining data. The tools access the common data via the warehouse. A functionality layer of the warehouse has a differential unit, which determines variants and versions of the software components based on differences between the components. An independent claim is also included for a software development method.
