<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a side airbag device capable of spreading and inflating an airbag in the desired position even in case it is mounted on the seat back which can be used also as a table. <P>SOLUTION: The side airbag device 24 is equipped with an inflator 25 and the airbag 26, which 26 is furnished internally with a tether 27 partitioning inside the airbag 26 into an upper compartment 29 and a lower compartment 30. The tether 27 is arranged so that its tail 27b is positioned over the gas jet 25a of the inflator 25 and furnished with a communication part 31 between its forefront 27c and the forefront 26c of the airbag 26.
