PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a drum-type washing machine that can reduce the volume of water to be used and improve washing performance. SOLUTION: The drum-type washing machine supplies steam into an outer tank 5 through a steam supplying tube 42 while rotating a drum 3 and projects ultraviolet light into the outer tank 5 by an ultraviolet light lamp 48 to expose the laundry contained in the rotating drum 3 to steam and ultraviolet light. Thus, it is known that projecting ultraviolet light to steam improves bleaching effect and by exposing laundry to steam and ultraviolet light tough dirt such as stains on the laundry can be favorably removed.
