PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of forming a satisfactory image by preventing mutual interfering of a photoreceptor drum and a discharging section having a light guide during the detachment of a photoreceptor cartridge, and thereby enabling the light guide to be disposed close to and opposite to the photoreceptor drum, and thus efficiently removing residual potential of the surface of the photoreceptor drum. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus selectively performs a color mode or a monochrome mode, and the image forming apparatus is constituted in such a way that the discharging section 19 having the light guide 19 is separated from the photoreceptor drum 21, accompanying the separation of a transfer belt 53 from an image forming station K which is used for monochrome image formation, prior to the detachment of the photoreceptor cartridge 17. This prevents mutual interfering of the photoreceptor drum 21 and the light guide during the detachment of the photoreceptor cartridge.
