<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a furnace refractory remaining thickness measuring method using elastic waves and capable of accurately measuring the thickness of refractories used for furnace walls of blast furnaces etc. without having to substantially open shells, and provide a furnace life prediction method and a furnace repair method through its use. <P>SOLUTION: In the furnace refractory remaining thickness measuring method for measuring the thickness of refractories by a reflection method using elastic waves in a furnace having a furnace wall constituted of both a shell and a refractory, the thickness of the refractory is measured by transmitting elastic waves to the inside of the refractory from a surface position of the refractory and receiving reflected waves of the elastic waves from the surface of the refractory on the inside of the furnace at a surface position of the shell. Alternatively, elastic wave are transmitted to the inside of the refractory from a surface position of the shell, and reflected waves of the elastic waves from the surface of the refractory on the inside of the furnace are received at a surface position of the refractory. It is preferable to transmit and receive elastic waves to and from at surface positions of the refractory by forming an opening part in the shell and exposing the surface of the refractory. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
