PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the cost of a lighting device of a lamp such as a discharge tube. SOLUTION: This lamp lighting device includes: an inverter transformer T1; a switching circuit connected to a primary winding of the inverter transformer for executing switching for converting a voltage from an input power source; a shunt transformer TB1 connected in series to a secondary winding of the inverter transformer; lamps Lp1 and Lp2 connected in series to the shunt transformer; and a control circuit 13 for controlling the switching of the switching circuit based on a voltage at a connection point between the shunt transformer and the lamp without detecting a voltage applied to the secondary winding of the inverter transformer.
