PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To recover a destroyed portion surely when other memory area is destroyed by compression data overflowed a compression data storage area. SOLUTION: Bit map data is created from image data in units of bands and compressed before being stored in a compression data storage area. The MCB (memory control block) of a memory area located next to the compression data storage area and the stored data are duplicated before starting compression and stored in a CPU cache (3). Upon completing compression of the bit map data for one band, a decision is made whether an MCB located on the boundary of the compression data storage area and the memory area located next has been destroyed or not. If it has been destroyed, the MCB and data stored in the CPU cache (3) is returned back to the original area. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
