PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a carbon roll having high abrasion resistance or impact resistance while keeping the advantage of the carbon roll such as lightweight properties or the like and excellent in the adhesion of a carbon roll main body with a coating layer, and its manufacturing method. SOLUTION: The carbon roll is constituted by forming an adhesive layer containing a rough surface forming agent on the outer peripheral surface of a roll of which the body part is formed of carbon, coating the surface of the adhesive layer with an undercoating layer comprising aluminum-zinc and providing a coating layer comprising ceramics, cermet or a metal on the surface of the undercoating layer.
