<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording control method for an optical disk recording/reproducing device which records a signal on an optical disk by a laser light emitted from a laser diode incorporated in an optical pickup. <P>SOLUTION: In the state in which a tracking servo circuit 19 for performing a tracking control operation for making a spot of the laser light follow a signal track is disabled, the level of a tracking error signal obtained when reproducing the signal recorded on the optical disk D is detected. On the basis of the detected level and the value of defocus of a focus servo circuit 20, the spot shape of the laser light with respect to the signal track is detected.
