<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a double faced display type picture display device which has an excellent utilization factor of the light, which further has viewing regions of picture display panels on both faces having characteristics almost identical to each other and which can be reduced in thickness. <P>SOLUTION: A polarization aligning plate 27 is disposed on the upper side of a light guide plate 26 and a liquid crystal panel 22 is disposed further thereon. An optical retardation plate 28 composed of a half-wave plate is disposed on the lower side of the light guide plate 26. A polarization aligning plate 29 is disposed on the lower side thereof and a liquid crystal panel 24 is disposed further on the lower side thereof. Polarization transmission axes N of the liquid crystal panels 22, 24 and polarization transmission axes M of the polarization aligning plates 27, 29 are set to be parallel to each other and thereby the characteristics of the viewing regions of the picture display panels on both faces are made almost identical to each other. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
