PURPOSE:To obtain detection signals each having a highly accurate phase difference from magnetic resistance elements, by forming both the magnetic resistance elements for detecting sine waves and the magnetic resistance elements for detecting cosine waves on the same substrate. CONSTITUTION:Magnetic resistance elements A for detecting sine waves which comprise detecting sections S1-S8 and connections C1-C7 and magnetic resistance elements B for detecting cosine waves which comprise detecting sections S9-S16 and connections C10-C18 are deposited on a substrate 10 and an insulation film 12 is formed thereon. Jumper sections J1-J14 are provided at parts where the magnetic resistance elements A for detecting sine waves and the magnetic resistance elements B for detecting cosine waves cross one another respectively. This eliminates effect of the insulation film 12 minimizing hysteresis characteristic. When formed on the substrate 10 in one mask pattern, the magnetic resistance elements A and B enable the setting of a phase difference to lambda/4 between a detection signal SinOUT and a detection signal CosOUT at a high accuracy.
