502,828. Lathes. DORIN, A. Sept. 25, 1937, No. 26041. Convention date, Oct. 1, 1936. [Class 83 (iii)] A lathe for turning ingots or like non-circular work pieces has the work 1 arranged on a vertical axis between centres 2, 3 and is turned by tools 5 guided by rollers 7 running on the rough surface of the work. The tools and guide rollers are mounted in holders 6 urged by springs and carried by slide rests 61 fed by screws 6<3>. The roller axes 12, 12 are inclined to the direction 4, 4 of longitudinal feed so that they may roll without slipping on the work. The tool axis is also inclined to the direction 4, 4 at an angle different from the inclination of the roller axis. If the cut is made in a downward direction, the upper roller comes into action to guide the tool after the lower roller has passed below the work. Specifications 404,454 and 469,674 are referred to. Tools-The tool consists of a hollow tube bevelled inwardly at the end to form a cutting edge. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 describes also means for holding and centring the lower end of the work and means for adjusting the upper dead centre. This forms the subject-matter of Specification 503,018, and does not appear in the Specification as accepted. |
